Rocking Chair Makeover

A few years back Hessa rocked herself to sleep in this very rocking chair /glider at husband’s aunt’s house. Well, she’s shifting house and the glider was gifted to us. 😁

Once we had it in the house though, it wasn’t such an easy task. It didn’t match any of our decor/rooms. I wanted it in the girls’ room so I could keep an eye on Hessa while I’m putting AdikH to sleep or nursing her.

Confident giler tau nak refurbish the chair sendiri. All coz of pinterest. Lol. Saw this and that and this. Then I realized something… I’m still pregnant. Lol! Gotta be less ambitious.

So first stop is spotlight. If there’s no cushions that fit, I gotta make my own and err, not looking forward to hand-stitching coz I don’t have a sewing machine! 😱

Thankfully, husband spotted two thick cushions. And I mean 3″ thick box cushions. Not cheap but makes my life easier already.

So I’m left with that skirting thingy to remove and the whole chair to spray to a colour we like. Maybe even remove the wings, looking a bit too ol’skool there.

Took the back and the arms off.

It was a process and a half just trying to remove the skirting… 😥 The staples were too deeply embedded in the wood to remove and the wood was raw!

Yeahhhhh. Wasn’t too happy about it. But ok still salvageable. Just need to buy white cloth to cover and staple before spraying. Then after da habis spraying the whole chair, can staple over grey cloth that matches the cushions.

Yup, that called for another trip to Spotlight.

After spraying! And yeah I purposely covered the top and put extra foam on it, just to make sure it lasts longer. So once the paint dries, I check to make sure it’s evenly sprayed and then I can cut the grey fabric to be stapled onto the seat. Hoorayyyy! It’s coming together!

And it’s done! Yeay me and hubby (for spraying the chair)!!!

Project #1 – dessert/candy buffet

Syafrein’s side organizing a kenduri/baby shower for Hessa! I volunteered to take care of the berkats and the mini dessert/candy buffet table.
Pictures of actual event will be at the very end of the post. 🙂

Looked through so many sites and googled pics of food and sweets. So fun! Inspirations!

So far, I have choc/vanilla cupcakes for berkats. They come in a clear individual box so I ordered stickers to be placed on the box. Can you envision that? Whee!

Then for the dessert/candy buffet table… It’s a very girly theme so I had these sweets/biscuits in mind:

• jelly beans
• marshmallows
• lollipops
• hershey kisses
• m&m’s
• almost famous amos cookies with white choc chips

I have Azlin helping to look through the containers available in the kitchen. If not, I have 2 options from ikea and white plates.

Last but not least, polka dotted nutella blossoms! Huzzah!

Then I realized I needed candy scoops for the jelly beans, marshmallows and cookies. So had to go asking people where to get them…

Last but not least, I needed labels for the items, plastic bags for takeaways and fasteners. Scrapbooking paper was used for the labels, plastic bags and fasteners from SKP.

I’m all set right? Hmmm. Oh yes, Enn mentioned something as decoration. Still thinking about that…

11th October

So today SIL calls me and says she’s going Daiso. Hurrah! So the scoops and plastic bags are settled. Gonna tie lil ribbons on the scoops.

Was browsing through the net yesterday while the baby fed and I really really really wanted pink m&m’s so badly. Found out that the only place selling those is candylicious, taka. Since its an all candy/choc store, might as well get the rest of the sweet treats there too. Especially the jelly beans, lollipops and marshmallows!

Quick discussion with MIL yesterday about the things needed for setup and the colour theme. So fun!

I made some tent labels while si kecik was sleeping. Determined to make a proper candy buffet. Not sure if I should get flowers and a display piece. Hmmm. Eh, seems like its not so simple anymore! Lol…

14th October

Well, had some time to myself before I got all caught up and forgot. I completed the tent labels and made a lil display piece for the table.

Unfortunately, one of my penmanship markers are nowhere to be found so the handwriting on the tent labels are… Kiddishly urgh.

Heading down to taka tomorrow for the candies and to look for an outfit for Hessa.

15th October

Bought the candies. Really think I could have gotten more value for money if I had more time to plan this event. It’s ok, 1st birthday maybe? Hehs.

Outfit for birthday girl has a bit of a problemmmmmm. Didn’t have much choice in dresses coz she’s so slender. (I swear she’s growing longer and longer instead of chubbier.) Tops and dresses fit okay. Pants or tights are so difficult to find. Got something from GAP but it’s in the 3-6 range. Pfft. Let’s see how to make the outfit work. Don’t mind stitching a lil bit. (Mummy is determined to make the outfit work, seriously.)

20th October

Day of event!

And the VVVIP!
